CYBERsitter First to Allow Third-Parties to Determine Offensive Internet Content Santa Barbara, Calif. (June 25, 1997) -- Solid Oak Software, Inc. today announced the release of CYBERsitter 97, the latest version of its award winning Internet content-filtering application. The new version now adds support for filter files created and maintained by third party organizations. The new CYBERsitter Partners Program allows concerned organizations to create and maintain their own lists of objectionable Internet sites for either private or public distribution. This gives CYBERsitter users several blocking lists to choose from, selecting ones that more accurately reflect their needs. Third party blocking lists can be used in addition to the default CYBERsitter lists or as replacement. Each time the user updates their files on-line, the index of available lists is updated. Users need only click on the lists they desire to use and they are maintained automatically. "I believe this will set the trend for the future of Internet filtering software." says Marc Kanter, VP of Marketing at Solid Oak. "There are millions more Internet users than there were when filtering software was first developed, and they are entitled to more choices in blocking criteria. It's not a 'one size fits all' market any more," according to Kanter. Participation in the CYBERsitter Partners Program is free, and is offered to any organization with an interest in helping to keep the Internet safe for children. Solid Oak provides all necessary software and support at no charge to CYBERsitter Partners. Solid Oak has already contacted dozens of potential CYBERsitter Partners and the response has been very positive. It hopes to have several third party lists on-line by September. Other new features in CYBERsitter 97 are support for Windows NT, selectable blocking categories, user definable Internet services (port) filtering, enhanced phrase recognition, Proxy Server support, and now 'understands' international character sets. Unlike other filtering software, Solid Oak provides free filter updates. CYBERsitter also uses smaller filter files and an intelligent content recognition system to identify objectionable material anywhere on the Internet. CYBERsitter 97 can be installed on a single Windows-based PC or network. A free trial version is available from Solid Oak Software's web site at http://www.solidoak.com. Single user copies are priced at $39.95. For more information on special educational and corporate pricing, or how to participate in the CYBERsitter Partners Program, call 1-800-388-2761.
